Connected to the Source

Arise and shine, dear one! God is with you!
"Dad, I'll plug in your watch for you so it can charge!" My ever-helpful son, Levi, was eager to assist, finding the right cord and making sure it was securely connected to the watch.
What we discovered later that evening, however, was that the cord was never actually plugged into the outlet. Despite his best efforts, no power was flowing and no charging had taken place.
In that moment, I realized our Christian lives can look a lot like that watch… connected on one end, but not to the source. We can have Bibles throughout our home, and yet if we never open them, they won't do anything to strengthen our faith. If we rely on secondhand knowledge of Scripture rather than going to the source ourselves, we miss the full-power charge that God's Word offers.
In Ephesians 6, Paul describes the armor of God that we are to put on daily in order to stand firm against the enemy. Our weapon is the sword of the Spirit, the Word of God. But if we leave that sword lying on the shelf and never take it up, it won't do us any good.
When we open our Bibles, take up that sword, and feed our souls on the Truth of Scripture, we become a real threat to the enemy. We learn to recognize his lies and see through his schemes before they take hold.
So today, ask yourself: is your device fully plugged into the source? Or is the cord dangling, unconnected? Choose today to take up your sword, dear one. Plug into the Word of God, and walk into whatever battle lies ahead strengthened, empowered, and fully charged.
