Arise and shine, dear one! God is with you!
When the weather is nice, one of my favorite things to do is go for a walk. Near my neighborhood is farmland, complete with cattle grazing green hills and a view of Mount Hood. Often on these walks, I’ll pour my heart out to the Lord and He’ll remind me of His Word. Recently I was questioning how He was going to provide, and my eyes were drawn to those cows on the hill, and I remembered this verse in Psalm 50. It comforts me knowing that God owns everything and His resources are unlimited.
In the Enduring Word Commentary, David Guzik shares this:
“There’s a story – which may or may not be true but is a good illustration – that shortly after Dallas Seminary was founded in the 1920s, it almost closed because of bankruptcy. The founders met for prayer and one of them was Harry Ironside. When it was his turn to pray, he said, “Lord we know that the cattle on a thousand hills are Thine. Please sell some of them and send us the money.” As the story goes, just then a Texas rancher came into the business office with a check from two carloads of cattle he had just sold. The secretary came into the office where the founders prayed, told them what happened and presented the check – it was for just the amount they needed to keep the seminary going. Dr. Lewis Sperry Chafer, the founder and president of the school, turned to Dr. Ironside and said, “Harry, God sold the cattle.””
There are countless stories of God’s miraculous provision in Scripture and in the lives of His people…yet there is not one story in the Bible that points to God’s desire to provide but running out of resources. He faithfully fed his people manna in the wilderness and never ran out. Jesus wasn’t stressed wondering what He was going to do to feed the 5,000. He used that need to demonstrate His powerful provision, with leftovers.
God’s not broke, dear one. Take time today to pray for your needs and the needs of others. Is God reminding you to trust Him that He’ll provide? Is God prompting you to give and meet the need of someone else? He’s a faithful God and He’s not worried!
