God Doesn't Do Shortages

“How can I set this before a hundred men?” his servant asked. But Elisha answered, “Give it to the people to eat. For this is what the Lord says: ‘They will eat and have some left over.’” Then he set it before them, and they ate and had some left over, according to the word of the Lord.” 2 Kings 4:43-44 (NIV)

God Doesn't Do Shortages

“A man came from Baal Shalishah, bringing the man of God twenty loaves of barley bread baked from the first ripe grain, along with some heads of new grain. “Give it to the people to eat,” Elisha said.
“How can I set this before a hundred men?” his servant asked.
But Elisha answered, “Give it to the people to eat. For this is what the Lord says: ‘They will eat and have some left over.’” Then he set it before them, and they ate and had some left over, according to the word of the Lord.”
2 Kings 4:42-44 (NIV)

Arise and shine, dear one! God is with you!

While shopping at Walmart, my husband sent me a text, “You won’t believe what I found…they have Texas Roadhouse rolls!” I turned the oven on to preheat in anticipation of those mouth-watering, slathered in glorious honey-cinnamon butter rolls!

While they didn’t have Texas Roadhouse rolls in Jesus’ time, bread was a staple food in their diet. In the New Testament, we read of Jesus’ miracles of multiplying bread to feed 5,000 men (plus their families) and another time when he fed 4,000. Each time, everyone ate their fill and there was more left over.

There’s another story in the Old Testament that involves a similar miracle. In 2 Kings 4:42-44, we learn that a man only has twenty loaves of barley bread. These are likely small loaves of bread, similar to those amazing yeast rolls they bring to your table at Texas Roadhouse. There’s no way twenty of those rolls could feed a hundred men! Yet, the Lord says, “They will eat and have some left over,” and that’s exactly what happened. (I picture God winking at Elisha as He said these words, knowing what miracles Jesus would one day do!)

It's easy to fear not having enough. We hear news stories, watch our retirement funds, or face a job loss and our minds can go down the rabbit trail of “what if” scenarios, as anxiety grips our hearts. We lose sight of how God has met our needs today and forget His proven track record of faithfulness.

How do we combat that fear? Fill our hearts and minds with the Truth of God’s Word! As you stay anchored in His Word, the Holy Spirit will remind you of who God is in Scripture. He loves you, dear one! Open your Bible, enjoy a buttery roll, and remember God doesn’t do shortages!
