God Still Speaks

“All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.”
2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NLT)

Arise and shine, dear one! God is with you!

My kids teased me as they saw a delivery box from Amazon, opened it up, and realized it was a Bible. “You got another Bible, Mom? Seriously?” Yup, I’m guilty. I like collecting Bibles in different versions with a variety of study notes to reference. Then there’s my journaling Bible with lines in the margins, perfect for jotting down sermon notes. Some Bibles I eagerly highlight and mark up while other Bibles, I like to keep as a clean copy, free of notations. I like the weight of holding my Bible in my hands. The app on my phone, while easy to access anywhere, just isn’t the same.

While I do enjoy the beauty of a new Bible in my hands, it’s really the words contained in the pages that I know hold the Truth of what I’m eager to explore. In 2 Timothy 3:16-17, we learn that all Scripture is inspired by God. As we engage with God’s Word, it will shine the light on what is True compared to the lies of this world and the sin in our own lives.

God’s Word prepares and equips us to do the good works God has called us to do. But that won’t happen, unless we open the pages and actually read it for ourselves. Listening to podcasts, hearing the sermon at church, and playing Christian music in the car can all encourage us, but it can never replace going directing to the source of Scripture and spending time reading God’s Word on our own.

When was the last time you opened your Bible, dear one? Did you skim the words briefly to check off your “good Christian” to-do list box, or did you ask the Holy Spirit to speak to you through His Word as you sought the Lord in Scripture? Our attitude as we go to God’s Word makes a difference! God still speaks, and He often speaks to us directly through His Word. Find your favorite Bible, a cozy spot to sit, maybe a cup of coffee beside you, and choose a passage to read. I promise you; you won’t regret it!
