He's in the Whisper

"And after the fire came a gentle whisper. When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave.
Then a voice said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”
1 Kings 19:12-13 (NIV)

He's in the Whisper

“The Lord said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.”
Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave.
Then a voice said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”
1 Kings 19:11-13 (NIV)

Arise and shine, dear one! God is with you!

In 1 Kings 19 we encounter Elijah on Mount Horeb. He’s seen God show up in miraculous ways, but at this point in his life he’s weary, feeling alone in his zealousness for the Lord. While on the mountain he experiences a powerful wind, earthquake, and fire, but that was not the presence of the Lord. God showed up to Elijah in a gentle whisper and Elijah recognized His voice. The Lord spoke truth to Elijah and reminded him that he was not alone.

Elijah lived his life as a prophet and was able to recognize the voice of the Lord in that gentle whisper. As we spend time in God’s Word, we’ll grow in our ability to recognize the voice of our shepherd whispering His Truth to our hearts.

In Psalm 46:10 we are reminded to “be still, and know that I am God.” The world around us can feel deafening with the messages we hear in today’s culture. As we take time to read scripture, pray, and listen to the Lord, He’ll speak to us through His Word. We’ll be better prepared to recognize the Truth from the lies of the enemy.

When was the last time you were quiet before the Lord, listening for that still small voice? He still speaks, dear one! Spend a moment with Him today, listening for His gentle whisper and remember that you are not alone. He is with you!
