Let it rain!

“You, God, showered abundant rain;
you revived your inheritance when it languished.
The Lord gave the command;
a great company of women brought the good news.”
Psalm 68:9,11 (CSB)

Let it rain!

“You, God, showered abundant rain;
you revived your inheritance when it languished.
The Lord gave the command;
a great company of women brought the good news.”
Psalm 68:9,11 (CSB)

Arise and shine, dear one! God is with you!

“Mom, what if we get out there on the kayak and it rains?”

“I don’t think it’s going to rain. There’s blue skies and those clouds look far away. We’ll be fine.”

My children were eager to test out the kayaks for the first time and we were determined to have a fun day out on the water. The forecast didn’t show a hint of rain so I was confident we wouldn’t get wet.

As we paddled out, a few raindrops began to fall, and I continued to assure my kids that it would likely stop soon. We’re used to a little Pacific Northwest drizzle, so I wasn’t concerned.

Before I knew it, that light rain quickly changed to a massive downpour! We paddled as hard as we could to make it back to the shore, totally drenched. We laughed at how I was completely wrong. It made for a memorable first kayaking experience!

In Psalm 68 we are reminded that it’s God who brings the rain. He has the power to shower the land in abundant rain, strengthening the weary, providing sustenance for languishing pastures.

As we grow in God’s Word, soaking up His Truth, we are revived. We’ve been watered by the One who provides living water that never runs dry…but what’s next? In verse 11, we see the women playing a crucial role- they are the ones the Lord commands to bring good news.

We have the ultimate good news to share with others- Jesus! In the New Testament, Paul shares this with the church in Corinth:

“I passed on to you what was most important and what had also been passed on to me. Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said. He was buried, and he was raised from the dead on the third day, just as the Scriptures said.” (1 Corinthians 15:3-4 NLT)

Who do you know that needs to hear about Jesus, dear one? God may be calling you to be the one to bring that good news to them! It may start with planting a few seeds in someone’s heart that are watered by the One who brings the rain, causing new life to grow! Let it rain!
