Piercing the Fog

“This is what the Lord says—
your Redeemer, who formed you in the womb:
I am the Lord,
the Maker of all things,
who stretches out the heavens,
who spreads out the earth by myself”
Isaiah 44:24 (NIV)

Piercing the Fog

“This is what the Lord says—
your Redeemer, who formed you in the womb:
I am the Lord,
the Maker of all things,
who stretches out the heavens,
who spreads out the earth by myself”
Isaiah 44:24 (NIV)

Arise and shine, dear one! God is with you!

It was one of those mornings where doubts and fears were creeping in uninvited. My emotions were all over the place, and I was struggling. I looked outside at the dreary fog but knew what my heart needed.
"Gracie, let's go for a walk."

Even my dog wasn't too sure about stepping out into the cold, misty fog, but I encouraged her along. As I walked, I talked with Jesus. I let go of the fears entangling my soul, longing for comfort, direction, and answers.

As I turned the corner, I looked up to see a break in the fog and clouds. Rays of light pierced the sky and warmed my face. That's when I heard His Voice speak into my spirit:

Remember who I AM.

In that moment, I recognized who was speaking to me and what He was asking me to do. He wanted me to get my eyes off my circumstances and the limited vision of what I could see, and instead gaze into the depths, strength, and magnitude of the infinite God I serve.

Suddenly, my mind filled with the Truth of who my God is, replacing the list of questions and fears. Just as described in Isaiah, I remembered the Lord as my Redeemer, the Creator of life and Maker of all things. He stretched out the heavens and put every star in the sky. He made the sun with the power to warm the earth and break through the fog.

I recounted stories of His power and glory throughout Scripture that reminded me of His limitless ability. He split the Red Sea. He fed His people manna. He made the walls of Jericho fall. He closed the mouths of lions. My God can do anything!

I returned home from that walk a different person than when I left my house. My circumstances hadn't changed, but how I viewed them did.

What are you facing today, dear one? Place your struggles in proper perspective beside the God you serve, and you'll see everything differently. It may just feel like those rays of sunlight piercing the fog.
