Shine the Light
“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:14-16

Arise and shine, dear one! God is with you!
One thing the Pacific Northwest is known for is grey skies and dripping rain for months on end. It can seem like we haven’t seen the sun for weeks and then one glorious day comes, and everything is lit up in bright sunshine. I’ll go outside and soak in the warmth and light, realizing that, though I actually love the rain, having the sunlight does make a big difference for everyone.
In Matthew, Jesus calls us the light of the world. He reminds us to let our light shine for others to see our good deeds and bring glory to God. We have been called to be a light in a dark place. The world needs to see our light. They need the warmth of Jesus in their lives and God has chosen us to shine that light to those around us.
The light also reveals things that may be missed in the darkness. When the sunrays recently filled my kitchen after we had a month of cloudy days, I noticed dust in places I hadn’t seen before. Sometimes our lives can seem to collect dust, and we need the light of Truth from God’s Word to reveal areas that need tending to.
How can you be light to those around you today, dear one? Does someone need to feel the warmth of God’s love through your kindness? Do you need to speak Truth in love to someone desperate for the Gospel? You are the light of the world! Don’t let those around you remain trapped under dark, grey skies when you can bring that needed sunlight of Jesus to them!
At Arise Women’s Ministry, we envision a sisterhood of women transformed by God’s Word bringing the light of Jesus to our world. Keep shining His light!
