Show Me Your Glory

Then Moses said, “Now show me your glory.”
And the LORD said, “I will cause all my goodness to pass in front of you, and I will proclaim my name, the LORD, in your presence. I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. But,” he said, “you cannot see my face, for no one may see me and live.”
Exodus 33:18-20 (NIV)

Arise and shine, dear one! God is with you!

I love Moses’ bold request and God’s willingness to grant it to him! This passage follows God giving Moses the original set of Ten Commandments, which he threw down and smashed when he saw the Israelites blatant rejection of God as they worshipped a golden calf they made. Moses recognizes both the sin of the people and his need for God’s Presence to go with them. He pleads with God to go with them and then desires to see God’s glory. His request is for more than the amazing interactions he's already experienced with God. He wants to see all of God’s goodness and His character…and God says yes! Moses can’t see the face of God and live, but God places him in the cleft of a rock, covers him with His hand, and allows Moses to see His back while He passes by. God shows Moses all His goodness and proclaims His name and His character. What an amazing experience that must have been!

I would love to experience what Moses encountered in the cleft of that rock on that mountain. It’s a great reminder that because of Jesus, we have the Holy Spirit and access to God’s Presence. Spending time in His Word, prayer, and worship help to deepen our connection with the Lord.

Like Moses, do you desire to see God’s glory? While on this side of heaven we can’t fully grasp all of God’s glory, we can grow in our relationship with Him and glimpse more of His glory. Spend some time in God’s Word today and lift up your heart to Him. He hears you and He’s with you, dear one.
