Spring Up, O Well
On the last and greatest day of the festival, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.”
John 7:37-38 (NIV)

Arise and shine, dear one! God is with you!
My husband is an avid fisherman, and he loves exploring nature areas, especially rivers known for good fishing. A few months ago, my family visited the Metolius River here in Oregon. It was beautiful! We went to the fish hatchery and noticed the strong currents of the raging river flowing beneath the bridge.
Later that afternoon, my husband told the kids we were going to see where the start of that river was located. He took us down a trail that led to a spring of water bubbling up out of the ground. What seemed to start off as a small trickle soon filled out into a stream which would then become a much larger river teeming with fish.
Immediately my thoughts went to a song I learned as a kid in children’s church Spring Up, O Well:
I've got a river of life flowing out of me
Makes the lame to walk and the blind to see,
Opens prison doors, sets the captives free.
I've got a river of life flowing out of me.
Spring up, O well, within my soul.
Spring up, O well, and make me whole
Spring up, O well, and give to me
That life abundantly
In John 7:37-38 we see Jesus addressing a crowd, telling them that whoever believes in Him, rivers of living water will flow from within them. The following verses go on to explain that Jesus was referring to the Spirit that those who believed in Him were later to receive.
Just as the Metolius River is flowing, teeming with life, when we believe in Jesus and have the Holy Spirit, we are full of life that flows out from us.
Do you have a river of life flowing out of you, dear one? Spend time with Jesus today, tap into that living water. Spring up, O well! May His love and light flow out of you today!
