The God Who Hears You
“Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to the Lord, “Remember, Lord, how I have walked before you faithfully and with wholehearted devotion and have done what is good in your eyes.” And Hezekiah wept bitterly.
Before Isaiah had left the middle court, the word of the Lord came to him: “Go back and tell Hezekiah, the ruler of my people, ‘This is what the Lord, the God of your father David, says: I have heard your prayer and seen your tears; I will heal you. On the third day from now you will go up to the temple of the Lord.”
2 Kings 20:2-5 (NIV)

Arise and shine, dear one! God is with you!
“I pray, too, Mom! I pray that Dad gets a new job.”
My six-year-old son’s words pierced my heart. His tender faith as we discussed how God hears our prayers made me reflect on my own faith. Do I really believe God hears my prayers?
I opened my Bible that evening to the next passage in my reading plan, 2 Kings 20 which told the story of King Hezekiah learning of his impending death. Instead of sinking into depression and despair, he cried out to the Lord in prayer, expressing his heart while tears rolled down his face.
My eyes caught the next words on the page in my Bible. It was as if Jesus was speaking directly to my heart.
"I have heard your prayer and seen your tears."
In that moment I was reminded that while my situation hasn’t changed yet, God has heard every prayer. Those prayers aren’t wasted.
The next morning, I opened my Bible app on my phone to read the daily verse, 1 John 5:14
“This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.”
He hears me. He hears the simple prayers of my son. He hears you, dear one.
Whatever is troubling you today, keep praying. When the days feel long, and you haven’t seen the answers to your request, keep praying. When you don’t know what to do next and your weeping seems to never end, keep praying. God has heard your prayers and seen your tears. He loves you. He cares for you. You can trust Him. Keep praying.
