The God Who Sees Me

“She gave this name to the Lord who spoke to her: “You are the God who sees me,” for she said, “I have now seen the One who sees me.”
Genesis 16:13 (NIV)

Arise and shine, dear one! God is with you!

I remember it like it was yesterday…the exhaustion of motherhood in the season of a newborn plus two young children at home. After a sleepless night, I was up in the morning to care for my toddlers. I opened the fridge to pull out the milk and sighed, with a prayer on my lips: "God, I'm so tired. This is hard."

In that moment, the Holy Spirit reminded me: I am the God who sees you.

I recalled the story from Genesis 16 of Hagar, the Egyptian slave to Sarai who was given to Abram with the thought that she could bear a child for him instead of waiting for the son God promised Abram. When she became pregnant, Sarai mistreated her and Hagar fled into the desert. The angel of the Lord found her near a spring and spoke to her.

Hagar had an encounter with the Living God that made her feel seen. She recognized that even as a pregnant slave woman, the Lord saw her. He saw her pain, her fear, and her desperation.

This same God sees YOU, dear one. He knows the circumstances of your life. He sees your tears. He hears your prayers. He understands the cries of your heart. He makes the unseen feel truly seen by the Creator of the universe.

Psalm 139:1-4 reminds us:

You have searched me, Lord, and you know me.
You know when I sit and when I rise;
you perceive my thoughts from afar.
You discern my going out and my lying down;
you are familiar with all my ways.
Before a word is on my tongue
you, Lord, know it completely.

In what areas of your life do you need to remember that God sees you? Whether you're in a season of overwhelming responsibility, quiet loneliness, or unexpected challenges, He hasn't forgotten you. No matter where you find yourself today, remember this truth: He is the God who sees you.
