The Headline That Matters
“God is our refuge and strength,
always ready to help in times of trouble.
So we will not fear when earthquakes come
and the mountains crumble into the sea.
Let the oceans roar and foam.
Let the mountains tremble as the waters surge!"
Psalm 46:1-3 (NLT)

“God is our refuge and strength,
always ready to help in times of trouble.
So we will not fear when earthquakes come
and the mountains crumble into the sea.
Let the oceans roar and foam.
Let the mountains tremble as the waters surge!
The nations are in chaos,
and their kingdoms crumble!
God’s voice thunders,
and the earth melts!
The Lord of Heaven’s Armies is here among us;
the God of Israel is our fortress.
“Be still, and know that I am God!”
Psalm 46:1-3, 6-7, 10a (NLT)
Arise and shine, dear one! God is with you!
Just open a news app and you'll see it. Disturbing headlines make our hearts race. Pictures of bombs going off thousands of miles away. Gas prices climbing at the nearest station. Reports of people desperate to flee while flights are canceled and no one knows how they'll get home. We wonder: How long will this last? Will it spread? What will this mean for me?
When we sense the trouble in this world… the uncertainty, the fragility of life, fear can quietly take hold. In those moments, we search for safety, comfort, and something solid to stand on. God's Word gives us exactly that.
Psalm 46 anchors us in the storm. It's a song written into Scripture for people just like us… people watching the world shake and wondering if anything will hold. We are reminded that God is our refuge and strength. We don't have to spiral at the latest headline or crumble under the weight of what we cannot control. The Lord of Heaven's Armies is here among us.
Instead of reacting in panic, we are invited to be still. Not to ignore the chaos, but to rest in the One who stands above it. Nothing can touch His sovereignty. No breaking news can catch Him off guard. He is omniscient. He is omnipresent. He is not surprised.
So don't be afraid, dear one. Still your heart. Fix your eyes on Jesus and let His Word write the only headline that truly matters.
