Trust the Master Baker

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.”
Romans 8:28-29 (NIV)

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.”
Romans 8:28-29 (NIV)

Arise and shine, dear one! God is with you!

Anyone who knows me well knows that I love baking, especially cookies. It’s something I can enjoy with my kids and frequently when I’m baking something one of my children will join in with me. Recently, it was Sarah who caught me making chocolate cookies with peanut butter chips. She was eager to put in each ingredient and to her delight, she had several comments about the process. “Mom, those do not look like chocolate cookies yet. That looks disgusting. Can we add more cocoa powder to make it extra chocolatey?”

Sarah was quick to question the process, but I assured her we were following the recipe and, in the end, when all the right ingredients were mixed together, we would have delicious cookies to enjoy. (She did approve of both licking the beaters and the first taste of that cookie!)

As I answered her questions, I realized I can sometimes question God’s ingredient process in my own life. As He adds something new to the mix, I ask, “God, are you sure that’s needed? That doesn’t seem right.” It reminded me of Romans 8:28 that is often quoted where “we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” But it’s in the following verse, Romans 8:29, where we come to understand exactly what this “good” really is. God is conforming us to the image of His Son. He doesn’t make a promise that the “good” is easy or what makes sense to us. He’s the Master Baker, knowing what’s needed in our lives to conform us to be more like Jesus.

Are you questioning the ingredients God is mixing into your life? Trust the Master Baker, dear one. Rest assured that He is with you, and He knows what He’s doing even when we don’t see the final result yet.
