Will You Sit With Me?

"I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you."
Genesis 28:15 (NIV)

Arise and shine, dear one! God is with you!

"Mommy, I don't feel good. Will you sit with me?"

My morning started much earlier than I anticipated as my youngest son woke me up, clearly not feeling well and struggling with a croupy cough. I ran hot water in the bathroom and sat with him as the steam filled the room to ease his breathing.

As I rubbed his back, comforting him as best I could, I remembered my Bible reading from the night before. In Genesis 28, Jacob has a dream and God spoke to him, reminding him of the promise He had made to Abraham. In Scripture there is a consistent theme of God saying to His people, "I am with you." His Presence with us, even when our circumstances don't change, makes all the difference.

Just as a child desires to be with his mom when he's not feeling well, our desire should be to go to God when we face life's challenges. We may not always feel His Presence, but we can be reassured that He's with us. God keeps His promises.

Wherever you are right now, dear one, you can know that Jesus is with you. Picture Him beside you, listening, caring, knowing you fully and loving you more than you could ever grasp. That reassurance can comfort you in ways nothing else can. God has promised to be with you and never leave you. Hold tight to that truth.

Just as I wouldn't dream of leaving my son alone in his discomfort, our Father will never abandon us. The steam eventually eased my son's breathing that morning, but what comforted him most was simply knowing I was there. In the same way, God's Presence doesn't always remove our difficulties immediately, but His faithful Presence sustains us through them.

When you feel overwhelmed, afraid, or alone, remember you can ask God this simple request: "Will you sit with me?" His answer to you is the same one I gave my child that early morning… "Yes, I'm here, and I'm not going anywhere." Rest in that promise today, knowing that the God who walked with His people through every generation is sitting with you right now.
