You've Got the Watering Can

“I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow.”
1 Corinthians 3:6 (NIV)

Arise and shine, dear one! God is with you!

When I moved to Oregon in the Spring of 2020, I was immediately struck by the beautiful flowers and foliage everywhere. Even the hanging baskets from Lowes seemed brighter and fuller than those back in California, no doubt thanks to all that Pacific Northwest rain.

Despite my best efforts, though, my ability to keep plants alive hadn't magically improved with the move. I quickly realized I should stick with keeping the people and animals in my home alive and simply enjoy my neighbors' flowers instead.

While I may struggle to grow actual plants, I can plant seeds of eternal significance in the lives of others, and trust God to make them grow. In 1st Corinthians, Paul reminds us that sharing the Gospel involves both planting and watering. This might look like inviting a neighbor to church, reading through Scripture with a friend, or following the Holy Spirit's prompting to tell someone about Jesus.

Here's the beautiful truth: We're not responsible for the growth… that's God's work through the Holy Spirit. We're simply called to be faithful seed planters and waterers of His Truth.

Throughout your day, opportunities surround you to plant seeds and water others with the Gospel of grace… if you open your eyes to the fertile ground around you.

So where can you plant a seed or do a little watering today, dear one? People around you are thirsty for the Living Water of Jesus, and you have the watering can to pour it out! Don't worry about forcing growth, pray instead for God to deepen their roots and strengthen their faith in Him.

Just be faithful in spreading those seeds, and let's see what harvest God brings!
